To provide leadership and management of the School’s support operations and staff, including academic/student administration and practical teaching support, financial and personnel administration, research administration, space/facilities/services functions, engagement, and safety and security compliance. The position provides executive-level policy and planning support to the Head of School and is a member and resource of the School’s Executive Committee and other decision-making bodies.
I completed a BA with a major in Journalism and a double major in Geography at UQ in 1980. I commenced work at UQ as a Graduate Clerk in 1981, gaining experience in a number of student and academic administration areas. In 1986 I became officer-in-charge, Enrolments Section. This position was reclassified in seniority twice while I was in it, following the merger with Gatton College, the introduction of HECS, and the addition of a systems role to the section. In 1996 I was appointed Manager, Academic Facilities, with responsibility for class timetabling, teaching space booking and refurbishment, and management of the University's auditorium. In 2001 I became the School Manager in Information Technology & Electrical Engineering, and in 2008, the School Manager, Chemistry & Molecular Biosciences.
I am a member of The University of Queensland Senate, elected by and from the professional staff of the University. I served a term 2006-2009, was re-elected for 2010-2013 and again for 2014-2017. I have served on the Senate's Student Appeals Committee and am currrently a member of Senate's Buildings & Grounds Committee.
I have been a member of numerous UQ committees related to the setting of employee conditions, including joint consulative committees, enterprise bargaining negotiation teams, classification working parties, workloads working party, Wellness Steering Committee.
I am a member of the Association for Tertiary Education Management.
